Came across a nifty tool today, called USB Duplicator Now. It’s a software usb duplicator, a tool that lets you replicate files to many USB drives that are connected to a computer.
It’s a clever product. There’s lots of hardware devices out there that appear to do pretty much the same thing, only they cost thousands of dollars, while this USB duplicator software only costs a few tens of dollars. That cost is saved in man labour hours after just copying files to 10-20 memory sticks (which you can easily do in one go with 2-3 USB hubs).
Happy USB duplication!

Had an interesting experience today. After finishing a carton of Tropicana orange juice, I opened a bottle of Brämhuldt’s mandarin juice. I was expecting the mandarin juice to be sweeter than the orange juice, and less acid/fresh (that’s my memory of Tropicana Mandarin Morning, anyway). To my surprise, the Brämhuldt’s mandarin juice was bitter. It reminded me of the bitter from peel. Have you ever tasted the peel? You should try, it’s not nice though.
(I actually had a childhood buddy who liked to eat the peel. Not for me…).
Anyway, it got me thinking – how much peel can you include in the juice? How much peel do different juiceries include in the juice? I don’t know if this always upsets the taste, but it certainly seemed to do for the Brämhuldt’s mandarin juice.
I’d love to know more, though, instead of guessing. Anyone know?

Just read a very interesting article on how to hire a programmer. According to Aaron, it boils down to 3 questions:
- Are they smart?
- Can they get stuff done?
- Can you work with them?
Interesting shortlist, but also the interesting part about how to find out these, according to Aaron, is not to do the very ordinary and unnatural interview, but to try to have a casual conversation, and spend a few hours with a person, and ask what they’ve done before. Sounds like an interesting way to get things done!
Thanks for the tips, Aaron!

I read a thought provoking article in New Scientist today, entitled 4 ways to feed the world. Did you know that:
- the global population will probably peak at about 9 billion people in ca 2050?
- it’s going to cost major investment over a long time to feed all those people?
- Africa would not need imported food aid if it could use all the food it produced?
- crops that yield 25% more food would boost food production in Africa more than doubling irrigation would?
Speaking of population peak, it’s going to be interesting to see what happens to the global economy when the global population is in recession rather than in growth.

This is a great resource, on something you probably haven’t bothered thinking that much about. It’s not the WTO you know from before, the World Trade Org., but it’s the World Toilet Organization. They have an interesting page with lots of toilet resources, and they even used to have a game on their website, where the objective was to clean a public bathroom. Interesting ways of raising awareness!
I just wish their webpage was better constructed, with less b0rked links, for example. I guess that just means they are doing what they are good at, rather than maintaining a web page!

If you brew beer, you need to check out morebeer.com. They sell all sorts of stuff you need for brewing beer, and even lots of stuff you didn’t know you needed, but that will make your life easier or your beer better. And if you don’t already brew beer at home – what’s wrong with you??

When I came across this gift ideas site, I was reminded that the Internet is an amazing resource!
I tend to be a bit late in planning stuff, amd especially their last minute gift ideas are a great resource for gift ideas. The problem when you are already late is that you don’t have time to research much either. Fortunately there are some good tips on that page, including stuff you can buy online that will just keep on giving and giving. They also have sections on unusual gift ideas and several more, so be sure to bookmark those!

Talk about simplistic design! But ketil.froyn.name has just what is necessary – useful information and useful links. It’s sort of eclectic, but for someone searching online for a particular issue, they will get a useful hit there if they get one at all. And I guess you may have noted the similar domain name. Weird, huh?
